How can we keep heritage crops alive, pass on seed-saving knowledge ... and bring more people into this shared work?

We warmly invite you to
Seeds, Knowledge and Resilience: Connecting Libraries, Seed Savers and Communities,
the final international online conference of the project “Seed Saving: The Knowledge of Resilience”.

20 October 2026 | 14:00–18:00 CET (15:00-19:00 Baltic time)
Online | Working language: English

Registration here

Partners from Latvia, Denmark and Lithuania will share findings and practical lessons from heritage-crop expeditions, seed-library activities, practical learning and international exchange. Together, we will explore how seeds and their stories are documented, how heritage crops remain in cultivation, and how libraries can connect experienced seed savers with new audiences.

Programme at a glance
14:00–15:30 | PART I:  Libraries as Partners in Seed Saving and Community Resilience
Librarians’ experiences, community resilience, research into the Latvian seed-saving movement and discussion.

15:40–17:00 | PART II: Seed Saving in Practice: Expeditions, Rural Traditions and Cooperation
Heritage-crop expeditions in Latvia; Danish experiences with shallots, conservation and seed libraries; and seed saving as Lithuanian common rural tradition.
Seeds in Action, 16:45–17:00, brings three practical stories, with five minutes for each partner.

17:10–18:00 | PART III: Growing the Network
A round table on future Nordic–Baltic cooperation, followed by next steps and closing.

Short breaks are scheduled at 15:30–15:40 and 17:00–17:10. The full programme is here.

The conference welcomes librarians, seed savers, gardeners, small-scale farmers, researchers, educators, museum professionals and community organisers, including those taking their first steps in seed saving.
You are welcome to attend the whole conference or join the part most relevant to your interests.
Please share this invitation with colleagues, local libraries, growers and community organisations who may be interested. We look forward to meeting you online!
